Serve-A-Thon

Students work on beautification projects at Trenton Central High School as their Serve-A-Thon service project.

The Bonner Center conducts an annual Serve-A-Thon, in which students collect charitable donations as sponsorship for a day of service at the beginning of the Academic Year. The Serve-A-Thon is structured similarly to a walk-a-thon, but rather than walking or running, students participate in a day of service.

The Serve-A-Thon is a chance for Bonner Community Scholars and Center staff to give back to the program that has provided scholarship and meaningful employment opportunities. During any given year, this could include support for scholarships, salaries, materials, transportation, enrichment trips and other such expenses.

In the past, the Bonner Scholars have worked on beautification projects in Trenton Central High School, community mapping projects and other initiatives throughout the city of Trenton. This year, Bonner Community Scholars will conduct their day of service at on of the Bonner Center’s newest community partners, Fernbrook Farms. The 300-acre farm in Bordentown, NJ has a strong environmental education program from inner-city youth and often visits schools and various programs in Trenton. The Serve-A-Thon day of service will include projects such as trail blazing, building community gardens and painting murals in the environmental education classrooms.
